Special Containment Procedures

SCP-009 must be housed within a hermetically sealed storage tank constructed from heat-resistant alloy, with dimensions not less than 2 meters in each dimension (2m x 2m x 2m).

Under no circumstances may SCP-009 be exposed to temperatures exceeding 0°C when not under experimental conditions, and no water-based solutions are permitted within a 30-meter radius of the containment area. The containment chamber must be equipped with temperature sensors that require continuous monitoring and be refrigerated by a minimum of three redundant cooling units. Any sensor or coolant system malfunctions must be promptly reported and repaired. If the temperature in the containment area exceeds -5°C at any time, the chamber must be sealed and flooded with coolant until it returns to safe levels (-30°C to -25°C).

During testing, the containment area must be maintained under a total vacuum, and personnel interacting with SCP-009 must don full environmental protection gear. After testing, all equipment, personnel, and materials must undergo dehydration procedures and be quarantined for no less than 12 hours. Any moisture exhibiting characteristics of SCP-009 must be promptly quarantined and introduced into the containment area. Living organisms found to be contaminated by SCP-009 must be terminated through chemical desiccation, with the resulting SCP-009 molecules incorporated into containment.

Description

SCP-009 consists of approximately ███ liters of a substance that visually resembles distilled water (H2O), albeit with a distinctive bright red coloration. This red hue is evident in all phases and provides an efficient means of identifying contaminated matter before the manifestation of anomalous properties. In contrast to regular water, SCP-009 remains in a liquid state within a temperature range of -100°C to 0°C and solidifies at higher temperatures. When exposed to temperatures below -100°C, SCP-009 transitions into a gaseous phase resembling steam.

Examinations of the atomic structure of SCP-009 have yielded inconclusive results. Its composition appears identical to normal water molecules, except for [REDACTED], which deviates from conventional laws of enthalpy. Dr. █████, an expert in Xenospatial Physics at Site ██, suggests that SCP-009 may originate from a universe with alternative physical laws.

The most perilous characteristic of SCP-009 lies in its capacity to contaminate regular H2O. When in contact with any aqueous solution, SCP-009, by unknown means, imparts its anomalous properties to other objects and organisms. Research indicates that it can assimilate substances like ice, steam, tea, fruit juice, seawater, blood, and [DATA EXPUNGED]. The rate of this process varies based on temperature and the precise chemical composition of the affected substance, ranging from 3 minutes to ██ hours.

Experiments involving D-Class personnel have illustrated a consistent pattern in

the conversion process:

  1. Initial Exposure: Subjects come into contact with SCP-009, which begins absorbing any moisture on the exposed surface. Subjects typically report only a mild warming sensation during this stage.
  2. Surface Conversion: Frost forms on the exposed area as the combined heat generated by the subject and SCP-009 raises the temperature above 0°C. This phase can take between one (1) minute and █ hours, during which subjects begin to experience [REDACTED] crystals forming on their skin.
  3. Deep Tissue Conversion: A rapid increase in SCP-009's temperature triggers a chain reaction throughout the subject's body, resulting in [REDACTED]. Actual blood loss remains minimal due to ice crystals [REDACTED], allowing subjects to remain alive and conscious for up to ██ hours.
  4. [DATA EXPUNGED]

Testing on D-Class personnel was terminated as of 4/23/20██.
